$800,000.00 Pandemic Era Jury Verdict on June 30, 2021
Pita Weber Del Prado partner, Randy M. Weber, is proud to announce that on June 30, 2021, PWD along with co-counsel Brittany Quintana (Quintana Law PA) and Yelena Shneyderman, Esq. (trial support/appellate counsel), obtained a jury verdict in Miami-Dade County.
In this case, PWD served as trial co-counsel on behalf of Sunset 102 Condominium Association in a case against Universal Insurance Company of North America. In particular, this lawsuit arose out of Hurricane Irma damage to 4 condominium buildings located on Sunset Drive and 102nd Avenue in Kendall. According to Sunset 102’s roofer and engineer, all 4 roofs were damaged beyond repair therefore necessitating replacement of all 4 roof structures. In addition, Sunset 102 sustained interior damages to 8 condominium units due to water leaks due to the roof damage. The total damages exceeded $800,000.00.
Universal Insurance Company claimed that all 4 roofs were repairable, however, and that the interior water damages were due wear and tear and other non-hurricane related issues. Universal Insurance Company was represented by the national law firm of Quinteros, Prieto, Wood & Boyer.
After an initial mistrial, the case was tried to a second jury. After 6 full days of trial, the jury returned a verdict of over $800,000.00 in favor of Sunset 102 and against Universal Insurance Company. The Jury found that all 4 of Sunset 102’s roofs were damaged beyond repair by Hurricane Irma and that the interior damages were caused by roof leaks caused by Irma.
PWD is proud and honored to have served as co-counsel in this case with Ms. Quintana, her law firm and Ms. Shneyderman and her law firm. Although this is not our law firm’s “typical” case, it was satisfying nevertheless. Here, as in all of our cases, PWD was honored to represent “David” against a “Goliath.” With offices in 22 States and Puerto Rico, Universal Insurance Company of North America had all the resources and a team of formidable lawyers to defend it.
Despite the odds, however, PWD is happy to announce that justice has once again prevailed. We are very appreciative to have tried this case with Quintana Law, PA, and to have served an integral part in ensuring a just and fair jury verdict!
PWD is always happy to co-counsel and committed to trying lawsuits to ensure just and fair results for our clients.
