PDM Wins Full Life Insurance Proceeds for Colombian Family, $600K
In 2006, Daniel Angel Mejia disaappeared in Columbia. Mr. Mejia had purchased a life insurance policy in Colombia with a Miami-based insurance company, which is part of Assurant. Through 2010, Assurant would not pay the life insurance proceeds to the family in Colombia. The family hired PDM. PDM obtained a death certificate from the Colombian government and assembled other proof to substantiate the Mr. Angel’s death. Assurant denied insurance coverage again. PDM initiated insurance bad faith proceedings against Assurant in Florida, giving Assurant a specific deadline to pay. Assurant finally paid the full amount of benefits, nearly $600,000, before the deadline.
It was a privilige to represent suc an honorable family in this matter. Nothing will replace Mr. Mejia, but PDM hopes that the money will provide the family with a level of stability.
