Public Service Announcement: Day Care Safety
Pita Weber Del Prado recently settled a case for insurance policy limits against a day care center in Hialeah for injuries to an infant, after another child at the facility bit our client’s child multiple times.
After the incident, Pita Weber Del Prado uncovered the Florida Department of Children and Families inspection reports for this facility, which stated that it was out of compliance in many respects, including proper supervision of the children and student to staff ratios. We resolved the case on behalf of our client’s infant daughter and the substantial proceeds will be used to fund an annuity that will be disbursed to the child after age 18.
Below are 3 tips on how to safely select a day care facility for your children:
- Always look up the day care facility on the DCF website in order to check the center’s history of inspections, violations, etc. Visit https://cares.myflfamilies.com/PublicSearch
- Always visit and tour the day care center in person. Go to the visit prepared to ask as many questions as possible and always trust your “gut.” No areas should be off limits. Transparency is key!
- Ask the center to provide referrals to parents of former and current students
