PWD Obtains Confidential Settlement for Woman Severely Injured Because of a Blown CT Scan Interpretation
Mrs. R presented to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. A CT Scan was done.
The CT showed that her stomach was up into her chest cavity – a severe paraesophageal hernia. This was a medical emergency requiring surgical attention.
But the radiologist missed this and failed to report what was on the films.
As a consequence, Mrs. R was discharged from the Emergency Dept with pain reducing medication. That same day, she then saw her GI specialist, who also relied on the radiologist interpretation of the film and the surgical attention she needed did not arrive.
Five weeks go by, and now Mrs. R is in even more severe pain, and she is rushed back to the hospital. Now, about two-thirds of her stomach was dead. She had to have several surgeries.
Today, unfortunately, with so little stomach remaining, Mrs. R has experienced a steady decline in her weight, health, and cognitive function.
Her family retained PWD, who quickly brought in radiology and surgical experts to help put the case together. PWD also utilized medical illustrations to demonstrate not just the negligence, but the physical impact that the ordeal has had on Mrs. R.
At mediation, PWD obtained a successful settlement for Mrs. R that will help Mrs. R obtain good, long term care and compensate her for the tragedy that occurred. We are honored to have represented Mrs. R and honored by the trust that she and her family placed in us.
