PWD Settles Lemoni Café Crash for $2.1 Million
PWD obtained $2.1 Million in the Lemoni Café Crash Case. Skip Pita of PWD was lead counsel for 12 victims injured at the Miami café when a car crashed into the unlicensed sidewalk café.
PWD uncovered that the City of Miami had shut the café down but then it mysteriously opened up again after the café’s landlord had various contacts with the City’s Mayor’s Office.
PWD pursued punitive damages against both the Landlord and the Café Owner, asserting a corrupt bargain with the Mayor’s office had been reached and that they; and that the Café and Landlord were operating a café knowing that they could not obtain a lawful permit from the Zoning Dept. to do so. PWD successfully obtained a Court Order allowing the victims to pursue punitive damages.
In July 2018, the case resolved for the full, available policy limits of 2.1 Million.
