Skip Pita Reaches Confidential Settlement in Shuckers Deck Collapse
Following the collapse of the Shuckers deck during a Miami Heat –Spurs Finals Game in June 2013, Skip Pita and fellow Miami lawyer Stuart Ratzan were selected by over 30 lawyers to server as the lead counsel in the litigation. Prior to the suit, Skip Pita had uncovered evidence and obtained important statements demonstrating Shuckers knew since at least 2006 that its deck was in severe disrepair. Skip also dug through the files at the municipality of North Bay Village to find out that Shuckers actually obtained plans and permit to replace the deck but let that permit expire in 2011, two years before the collapse. Skip was convinced would form the basis for punitive damages against Shuckers. In the litigation, Skip Pita and Stuart Ratzan teamed up to take critical depositions and successfully convince the court that punitive damages were appropriate. Last month, Skip reached a confidential settlement on behalf of his clients.
